Good article and an obvious "technique" for recruiting young Republicans that will no doubt seek places in our government....couched in "they're only here for the spiritually". Something the Dems have yet to figure out.

I am pastor who planted a church and needed to meet in a non-traditional space. Ours was a Chuck-E-Cheese type of facility. Believe it or not it isn't unusual for a church to meet in a bar. They aren't being used on Sunday mornings and so they can be ideal depending on the layout. I wouldn't have known this had any connection to MAGA if you hadn't phrased it that way, other than white Christians lean more Republican in general. Their missions and ministries have nothing to do with politics. It's just a church that meets in a bar and there are hundreds of those.

Almost everyone we met either worked for the admin, in a conservative think tank like Heritage or on the hill for members like marjorie taylor greene. This was definitely a trump crowd

Powerful piece Tara. MAGA is a cult. And there are cult tendencies in this. Cults like Jonestown use society poverty things like that to provide some type of hope. Then they pounce in. That’s what MAGA is.

This feels like a different segment of the right. Raquel, the hot MAHA girl “Make America Hot Again” who throws these in-person dating events all over Manhattan. I went to the one at Trump Tower. It was open, and I love a white girl with great eyebrows, which there were tons of. What was interesting was interacting with this group of people and seeing the wide variety of what “the right” actually is.

There were the bad stereotypes, the ones who want to be ICE agents for all the wrong reasons, very religious people with zero pop culture references, and then the normal finance baddies who are center right, the Hamptons republican type people not religious, but want mass deportations for anyone who can't speak english.. Nobody did pronoun introductions there, that’s for sure.

Excellent unbiased investigate "think piece"

A mashup opening sentence for a mashup. Republican/Christian/Community mixer. There's still nothing completely new under the sun. I see how this socio-political movement is getting real traction. (Part of the secret sause is a new perspective on concepts and ideology that are already intertwined.) With statements about "make-led Christian Society" and "Worship is Warfare" there are some rough edges under the tent. The concepts of Identity, Community, Vocation and Humanity all resonate in Kings Church.

I'm afraid that substack's lousy infrastructure is well known to me. Sigh. I understand.

Fascinating story Tara. One legit question. At the service, was everyone there pretty much white?

Tara Palmeri's avatar

Yes except for a handful of people

Too bad we have to pay for a Vanity Fair subscription to read it.

Religion usually finds people who need it. Billy Graham spent a lot of time in college towns using theaters . In a world of screens religion can be an entry to people. If gathering like this start happening manty places we may have another Great Awakening. We have to wait and see if this is lasts.
