Wow I hope the odds of them taking the case are as low as Elie says. It would be bonkers if they do take it & wind up letting her out. I think Trump pardoning her is more likely at this point.

You are so right! I have never seen a more disgusting display of corruption, conniving bullshit and people who take an oath and don’t uphold it. Oh wait, the Republican senators and house members are in this category too. Where are the morals in this country!!!!

"The law"... an honorable profession? I think not. It has been exposed as just as shady as all the institutions have shown themselves to be...feet of clay...

I think this may have part of the bargain Trump made with her. She knows everything; where all the bodies are buried, including her own so I have no doubt she was promised a pardon. Either through SCOTUS, or quietly after the midterms.

I’d even bet that SCOTUS takes up the case and does let her off on a technicality. Sure, MAGA will be mad, but not at Trump. He’ll get off Scot-free as always.

That said, since SCOTUS is giving Trump everything he needs to dismantle our republic, and replace it with a Christian Nationalist authoritarian kakistocracy; they’ll forgive SCOTUS as well, and accept the technical release with little regard.

Not to mention, Fox an the rest of the right-wing media ecosystem will do a superb job of blaming it on either left wing radicals indoctrinated into trans ideology, or ANTIFA; feel free to pick your poison…:)

I also think if they take up the case, it will definitely be to stamp the get-out-of-jail-free card for GM, for whatever ever reason. That says it all. Castrated Congress and the Supreme Court packed with puppets and sellouts… we have our work cut out for us. I hope Elie Honig is correct and they don’t hear the case.

Thanks for sharing. Always a special feeling to learn about how people of wealth get sweetheart deals in a system they call justice. Yeah, special. So little kids with rich connections get justice but a girl kid of a working class does not. It’s all good to destroy their lives as long as it’s not mine says the rich fuck.

Just thinking of Melinda French Gates, as I live near some of their former shared places around the Northwest. A good friend did their interior decoration! But re Epstein, I think I recall that when French-Gates heard about her husband's visits to Epstein's house, that spelled an end for her. I know a bunch more stuff happened too, but as their daughter was the same age as some of the victims, I recall that was a turning point for her.

Yes. I seem to recall the same thing—Bill Gates’ assiviation with Epstein repelled her.

i confess i’m responding to your essay’s title so i may have to edit after i read the entirety… but i’m shocked as it sounds like there’s a real possibility of ignoring the serious egregious crime, lifetimes of harm perpetrated on young girls to favor a horrific criminal who in turn is protecting a prominent man who we all know is repeatedly named in the Epstein files… crime upon crime upon crime… ad infinitum is NOT justice !

I wonder whether Acosta thought that being nice to Starr et al. would benefit his career.

There were cases of regulators cozying up to industry because they wanted lobbyist jobs after leaving government around that time

The Roberts court will undoubtedly go down in history as one of the most corrupt. They just don't seem to care how history will treat them. Let's hope for a blue wave in 2026 and 2028. Let's also hope that the democrats will make many changes to ensure we don't find ourselves here again in the future.

I continue to wonder ... if the SCROTI 5 were somehow - even remotely - involved with the international child sex trafficking cabal. Also...I think/wonder if Melania's arrival in the US as a "model" was also somehow involved. It seems there was some trafficking going on with women of age. I believe this John ring reaches the stratosphere...

I’m convinced this corrupt US Supreme Court will do anything it can to advance Donald Trump’s agenda. It has a ready-made technical excuse to free Ghislaine Maxwell—and the Bill Cosby precedent to justify it.

If it frees Maxwell, I doubt the MAGA base will be that upset, especially as Fox News and Sinclair paper it all over. But the Epstein tar baby will forever be attached to the Roberts Court.
