Not just Washington, but the world is reeling over the tragic murder of a young Jewish couple outside of the Capital Jewish Museum in D.C.
On this week’s episode of State of the World with Sally Lockwood, Hareetz’s Amos Harel unpacks why Israelis were not shocked by the news and why public sentiment has shifted against Israel.
“It's very, very hard to explain our position,” Harel said. “We started this war as Ukraine, as this region's Ukraine. This was my view. We were this was an unprovoked attack. We didn't try to inflict damage on Hamas. Unknown, Hamas started this one morning. It was devastating results. And yet, within a few months, in the eyes of many in the Western world, we became Russia. Now, I think this is deeply unfair, but these are the facts. This is the situation right now. And if we continue in that direction, it would be very, very hard to explain the Israeli position under these circumstances.”
Axios reported that President Trump is growing tired of the war and wants to “wrap it up” which may explain why he skipped Israel on his Middle Eastern tour last week. Harel said it’s exactly what Israelis fear as Netanyahu pushes forward with his ground incursion, announcing that the war will only end when the Palestinian people have been relocated, like Trump prescribed.
“President Trump more or less has forgotten about his own plan,” Harel said.
“As usual with, the president, it's hard to tell how serious he is about matters. And it depends on how many times he actually returns to these matters.”
On this show, we also talk to ReliefAid founder Mike Seawright in Gaza, whose team members have gone missing after a mission to deliver fresh water.
“Frankly, I’m waking up every day, checking my messages to see if they're still alive. This is not the way it should be,” he said.
“Despite that, we specialize in helping families in war zones. But situation in Gaza can’t even be seen. It's gotten much, much worse.”
“I don't know what to say to them in the families….It’s one of the hardest things, I have to deal with.”

Thanks Tara. This was, in my opinion, a very objective and fair review of this ongoing genocide. I forwarded this to many people as no one is covering these war crimes in corporate media that I've seen.
It was refreshing to hear calm voices discussing facts.
