Welcome back to The Red Letter.
The Iran crisis is tearing apart the fragile MAGA coalition, held together by one guiding principle, America First. If President Trump’s decides to follow Israel into Iran to drop the 30,000 pound bunker buster bomb on their nuclear facilities it will not only impact his legacy but the future of the party’s rising stars like JD Vance, Tulsi Gabbard and Marco Rubio, who will run on Trump’s record just like how Kamala Harris ran on Joe Biden’s record. Chuck Todd and I break down all of the political variables on The Tara Palmeri Show, which you can listen to on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
The humanitarian crisis in Iran is even more pressing. On the latest episode of State of the World with Sally Lockwood, she speaks to Elika Ashoori, a British Iranian whose father Anoosheh Ashoori was detained in Iran’s infamous Evin prison for nearly five years, about the terror Iranians are feeling ever since the war broke out. Sally is a former SkyNews correspondent based in Dubai, and she said she’s feeling the tension in the region —from flight patterns rerouted to avoid conflict zones to Iranians fleeing on boats to Dubai. This is a much-watch to understand the crisis on the ground.
As promised, The Red Letter quiz is back. I always get a kick out of the wrong answers. Last week, many of you thought that staffers for Jeanne Shaheen were carrying a life-sized cardboard cutout of the Senator around the Capitol. It sounds very Veep, but totally plausible. The correct answer is just as weird, if not more…
Try again this week and leave your score in the comments section. I want to hear how you made out. Soon this quiz will be behind a paywall so enjoy for now. Thank you to Luke Radel and Abi Baker for putting it together.
5/10 this week so an improvement on last week. Can’t believe I got the first one wrong though. Just read the article about it but all logic just flew out of my brain. That seems to be a theme….
Got a 7 out of 10 this week, I'll take it!
