They have been forcing god into politics for decades….The thumpers have a way of guilting politicians. It’s all control. Billy Graham, Jimmy Swaggert, Jerry Falwell, all of them at one point or another have tried to influence politics. The majority are usually proven to be broken individuals selling a dream of a promised land, much like our politicians. They make perfect business partners.

Without any intention to offend — since I’m offering an outsider’s view (I’m from Argentina) — I think the issue of Christian nationalism helps explain the radicalization of the far right, the ideological base of the MAGA movement (Trump, Kirk, Miller, etc.). Today, it governs the country with a mindset closer to a theocratic regime than a constitutional republic, using every weapon at its disposal to persecute those (the majority) who think differently or are different by race, religion, or sexual orientation.
Anything different is seen as a threat to be eradicated — this is 21st-century neofascism. But pseudo-kings and dictators always fall, and democracies always rise again. Keep fighting — your goals are worth it.
