Since President Trump won the election, Scott Jennings’ has had a meteoric rise among the MAGA base and on CNN. President Trump gives him feedback on his jousting sessions with Abby Phillip—one of the rising shows on CNN. Jennings appeared on stage at an April Trump rally in Michigan and he’s working on a book with Trump about his comeback called A Revolution of Common Sense: How Donald Trump Stormed Washington and Fought for Western Civilization.

But for everyone in Washington, we all remember Jennings as a normie Mitch McConnell acolyte, who worked for George W. Bush and called for the party to get behind Marco Rubio in 2016 after working on Jeb Bush’s campaign.

He committed all of the cardinal sins of Trump’s loyalty test: he accused Trump of fomenting the insurrection, acknowledged Joe Biden’s 2020 election win, and said Trump would never win the election in 2024 if he was the nominee. He even committed the grave sin of calling for the party to get behind Ron DeSantis.

“You don’t want DeSantis because he will beat Joe Biden,” Jennings said on CNN at the beginning of the primary election.

“Ron DeSantis did not cause Donald Trump to have sex with a porn star while his wife was home pregnant,” he said when comparing Trump’s moral failings compared to DeSantis.

But ever since Trump won the nomination, he has become a fierce defender of the administration, and his star on CNN has skyrocketed along with his clout on the Right. Status reported that CNN offered him a massive pay increase, and Jennings has changed his sartorial style from the typical drab gray and blue blazers you see in D.C. to flashier suits with purple tones and pink pocket squares.

“I did not get it at first,” Jennings said, explaining his rabid conversion. “I wasn't trained to understand this outsider campaign. Just didn't get it.”

“I'll tell you this, I feel closer to Donald Trump today than I ever have.”
